Symposium.ASoundEditorWithATangibleInterface A sound editor with a tangible interface Using SuperCollider we have developed a tabletop waveform editor that allows direct manipulation of audio samples through combined multi-touch and tangible interaction techniques. Developed as a classroom project at UPF under supervision of Sergi Jordà, Martin Kaltenbrunner and Günter Geiger (developers of the reacTable together with Marcos Alonso), the prototype serves both as a minimalist music instrument (a technique inspired by the 'Sound Waves' live set by Saverio Evangelista and Federico Spini) and as an intuitive sound design workstation. The system follows the tradition of the reacTable and takes advantage of the interaction capabilities provided by the reacTIVision framework, linked to SuperCollider through the TUIO implementation by Till Bovermann. The proposed presentation will focus on the software architecture and on the possibilities offered by tangible manipulation of sound. |
