Symposium.Pulse Pulse (10') Pulse is performed live by the composer using a number of sliders, knobs and wheels, according to a predefined score which has room for some improvisation and random processes. The piece features a special "wheel" controller, designed by the composer and built at Sonology. It was written in SC2, but recently ported to SC3. The sounds in the piece are both synthetic and sample-based. In Pulse a transformation between abstract instrumental sounds and organic sounds takes place. Samples of a harp and certain animals were used as a starting point. Pulse won the Matthijs Vermeulen Incentive Price for young composers in 2004. The composition was commissioned by the Fonds voor de Scheppende Toonkunst. |
